Single Channel RS-422/485 Serial PCMCIA Card One serial port Configurable for RS-422 or RS-485 PCMCIA Card Services Specification 2.1 compliant Client software driver for DOS and OS/2 16550 UART with 16-byte FIFO standard Selectable I/O base address Selectable and shareable interrupts Full Duplex or Half Duplex options Windows 95/98 Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 compatible
The SSP-200/300 Type II PCMCIA card adds one serial port to a host computer via the PCMCIA drive. Used with a 60 ohm resistor the card functions in RS-485, with an 100 ohm resistor it works as RS-422. The SSP-200/300's serial port is implemented with a 16550 UART containing a 16-byte transmit and receive FIFO. This makes the SSP-200/300 ideal for use in multi-tasking environments and with applications requiring high data rates. The RS-422/485 serial port may be configured to operate in either Full-Duplex or Half-Duplex mode. Half Duplex mode may be selected via software configuration. (However, under Windows environments, only point to point communication is supported, not multi-drop networks and Half Duplex options.) In Half Duplex mode the RS-422/485 transmitter may be enabled and disabled via the RTS or DTR signals, both of which are controlled through the Modem Control Register on the UART. The SSP-200/300 also provides the option for an RTS-CTS modem control handshake that can be enabled or disabled when the card is configured.
The SSP-200/300 will, by default, be assigned to the lowest COM port available. However, users may select the particular COM port to which the SSP-200/300 is assigned. In addition, users may specify any interrupt level and any I/O space base address for the SSP-200/300.
All necessary software is included to install and configure the card for use with DOS/Windows 3.x, OS/2, and Windows 95/98 Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. Though we do not provide specialized drivers, the SSP-200/300 has been found to work in many hand-held computers using Windows CE.
