The PC-12 is a dual channel asyncronous serial communications adapter for implementing a 16-bit ISA compatible I/O bus. The serial interface is implemented with a pair of 16450 Asynchronous Communications Elements (ACE). The 16450 is compatible with the 8250 ACE found in the original IBM PC/XT models. The optional 16550 ACE provides an additional FIFO mode of operation, a DMA interface, and a much higher maximum baud rate than the 16450. This board plugs into one slot of the PC/AT. The RS-422/485 port is jumper selected for full duplex, half duplex and multidrop operation. The ports, when supplied, are set up as standard COM1 and COM2 but can be individually set at any other input/output address by configuring on board DIL switches. These switches allow each channel to be addressed anywhere in the available I/O address space of the system. Communications speed up to 56K baud, 5,6,7 or 8 bit character length; odd, even or no parity with 1 or 2 stop bits are easily software selected. |
