One Port RS-232 Serial USB Adapter Single RS-232 Serial Port Speeds to 115.2 kbps Compatible with USB Specification 1.1 Plug & Play and Hot Swap capability Device enumerates itself as a standard COM port Supports all standard RS-232 serial devices Bus powered; no external power supply required Supports energy-saving suspend and resume functions Compact case with EZ-thread thumbscrews Windows 98 and Windows 2000 compatible
The SSU-100 provides a single RS-232 serial interface to a PC via the USB port. The adapter supports serial transmission at all common legacy device bit rates, and is capable of data rates up to 115.2kbps.
To allow the continued use of existing application software designed for traditional serial adapters, the SSU-100 enumerates itself as a standard COM port, and consistent identification is ensured with internal unique electronic serialization. Thus users can continue employing their present serial devices, such as scanners, modems, barcode readers, touch-screens, ISDN terminal adapters, etc., while at the same time taking advantage of the benefits that USB provides. For instance, users need not concern themselves with resource issues that exist on the ISA bus when adding new devices such as selecting ISA bus when adding new devices such as selecting I/O address and IRQ.
Another advantage of USB is Plug & Play capability; the user merely plugs the device in and the computer immediately configures it. An additional user friendly feature is hot-swap capability; the computer need not be powered down before plugging in a new device.
The SSU-100 is bus powered, conveniently drawing power from the Universal Serial Bus itself, so no external power supply is required. As a USB low-power device, the SSU-100 draws less than 100mA from the upstream PC or hub. Compatability with USB specification 1.1 provides support for suspend and resume operations as well as remote wake-on-ring. Support is provided for Windows 98 and Windows 2000.
