The PCIBUS-xB series of CompactPCI backplanes are available in one, four and eight slot versions that are compliant with the PICMG™ 2.0 R3.0 specification. The combination of 32-bit PCI performance, rugged form factor and reliable pin-in-socket connectors makes these backplanes ideally suited for embedded computer applications.
CompactPCI is an open standard supported by the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG).Based on a Eurocard mechanical form factor yet electrically identical to the PCI 2.1 specification, CompactPCI uses a 2-mm hard metric connector that provides excellent signal to noise ratio and cross-talk immunity allowing up to 8 slots without a PCI to PCI Bridge.
Each backplane has a dedicated System Slot, located at the
rightmost connector position, that can accommodate a
System Slot Adapter such as a Pentium® or PowerPC® based
processor board. The remaining slots can be used for Peripheral Adapters such as simple I/O, intelligent controllers, slave CPU boards and PCI bus masters.
All of the PCIBUS-xB backplanes support 32-bit, 33 MHz
PCI bus operation; additionally, the one and four-slot
versions are designed to attain the increased performance of
66 MHz PCI. Other features of the backplanes include
selectable 5V or 3.3V V(I/O) signaling and staged pin
lengths for Hot Swap compatibility. Rear I/O versions of the
backplanes are available for the use of rear plug-in modules.
Power connection is achieved using a screw terminal block,
allowing a secure and flexible method that is easily adapted
to various power supply formats. Additional connectors are
provided for power supply control signals, system management bus and external Reset and Inhibit switches. An optional 3.3V DC/DC converter module, the PCIPWR-1, is available for use with power sources that don't have a 3.3V output.
The PCIBUS-xB series of backplanes has been designed to fit into any standard Eurocard enclosure. Offering various slot configurations, rear I/O options and flexible power supply connection, GESPAC's CompactPCI backplanes are ideally suited for portable instrumentation, machine control, real time data acquisition, telecommunications or any application requiring a high performance, yet compact and rugged form factor.
